Day Four of The Boodles 2014
...Was a day of the returning giants
Day 4 of The Boodles was a day of the returning giants
Last year's Wimbledon semifinalist Jerzy Janowicz returned to Stoke Park for the second consecutive year and entertained the crowd with more than just his booming serve. Janowicz danced and acted his way to victory over Jack Sock 6-3 3-6 10-8 in 1 hour 9 minutes.
"It is all the fun, I remember my match with Grigor Dimitrov last year and we had a lot of fun. I remember he put sun lotion on my back! I knew what to expect. I knew it was going to be a lot of fun again, great hospitality - so that is why I came back." said Janowicz.
Croatia's Marin Cilic also chose The Boodles as his final destination to warm up for Wimbledon. Cilic brought his Wimbledon champion coach Goran Ivanisevic to Stoke Park to watch over his serving technique with just days before his first round match at The Championships.
Cilic defeated Italy's Fabio Fognini 6-3 6-3 and says the match practice and relaxed setting is the perfect combination to prepare.
"To be playing at The Boodles is always a lot of fun. There is always a very good field of players and there was sunshine and a full crowd. It's always enjoyable to play anywhere with a full crowd, especially here at The Boodles. The club is really nice, it's organised well and its sensational, so its a big pleasure."
John Isner who is seeded 9 at Wimbledon was defeated by Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-3 6-3 in just 55 minutes. The 6ft 10 American says the court time though was of the most importance to him and he is ready for a good fortnight at SW19.
"I like to think that I am getting all my bad points out of the way. I feel really good. Regardless of how I am hitting the ball before a tournament, if I just don't worry about it and enjoy what I am doing it will usually turn out my way and I am having a lot of fun. The courts here at The Boodles are really similar to Wimbledon. I think all of the players that played at The Boodles have a little bit of an advantage actually, so its great."
